Indian women’s cricket team led by Harmanpreet Kaur thrashed Thailand by 66 runs in their second game in the Asia Cup 2018. And another dominant performance by Women-in-Blue helped them to consolidate their position at the top of the table.

On Monday (June 4), asked to bat first at the Royal Selangor Club in Kuala Lumpur, Indian squad posted a total of 132 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

Mona Meshram (32 off 45) and Smriti Mandhana (29 off 22) opened Indian innings and gave the team a fine start. Later, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (27 off 17) and Anjua Patil’s cameo gave India a flying finish.

From Thailand camp, Wongpaka Liengprasert picked up two wickets in three overs. Ratanaporn Padunglerd and Nattaya Boochatham bagged a wicket each.

Following the target, Thailand’s start was not good as they lost Nattakan Chantam early in the game, but Naruemol Chaiwai (14) and Nattaya Boochatham (21) offered resistance for the second wicket. The duo added 31 runs for the third wicket.

However, Moga girl, Kaur ruined Thailand’s batting line-up by taking three wickets. And the Thailand women’s team was eventually restricted to 66 for 8 in 20 overs, giving India another big win.

Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was awarded the player of the match award for her cameo with the bat and returns of 3 for 11 in three overs.


Brief score of the match: India Women 132/4 in 20 overs (Mithali Raj 32, Smriti Mandhana 29, Harmanpreet Kaur 27; Wongpaka Liengprasert 2-16) beat Thailand Women 66/8 in 20 overs (Nattaya Boochatham 21; Harmanpreet Kaur 3-11) by 66 runs.
